Asian long-haul no-frills innovator, AirAsia X, chooses GuestLogix technology & platform to power onboard retail services
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA and TORONTO, CANADA — March 19, 2008 — GuestLogix Inc. (TSX-V:GXI), the leading provider of onboard retail systems to the airline industry, today announced the signing of its first Asian customer, AirAsia X, a new long-haul budget carrier owned by a consortium including AirAsia BHD and the Virgin Group. AirAsia X flies to Australia and China from its base in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The GuestLogix Mobile Virtual Store™ implementation will go live on March 31st.
Low cost airlines account for one in ten of all seats flown in the Asia Pacific region, low by global standards, but uniquely high where international routes are involved. AirAsia X's service model offers low transparent fares to sustain high passenger volume while driving ancillary revenue by selling food, drinks, merchandise and in-flight entertainment on a user-pay basis.
Azran Osman Rani, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia X said, "Our mission is to deliver an unparalleled budget travel experience for long haul travelers to, from and within Asia. GuestLogix provides the retail solution to enhance passenger convenience and secure new revenue opportunities through innovative selling of products and services onboard."
Tom Douramakos, President and CEO of GuestLogix added, "AirAsia X is a leader and an innovator in long-haul budget travel in the Asia Pacific region. We look forward to growing the onboard sales for AirAsia X and helping them be the best of class in their category. This signing opens the door for GuestLogix to serve a substantial airline passenger travel market in the region." The Company established its Asia Pacific office in Singapore last February and hired payment industry veteran John Devins to lead business expansion there.
