GuestLogix helps Atlantic City casino patrons have fun ride on new weekend train service to and from New York City
Provides POS credit/debit card service with real-time authorization for meals, drinks, snacks and more
February 11, 2009 — TORONTO, ON — GuestLogix Inc. (TSX-V: GXI), the leading provider of onboard retail solutions to the passenger travel industry, today announced that its GuestLogix Mobile Virtual Store™ retail solution is serving casino customers on board a weekend direct train service between New York’s Penn Station and Atlantic City. The service is a joint venture of three leading casinos and is supported by the Casino Reinvestment Authority. The train is operated by NJ Transit with ticketing and reservation services provided by Amtrak.
The train service officially began last Friday, with GuestLogix’ Mobile Virtual Store™ fully deployed onboard to support credit and debit card transactions with real-time authorization. The joint venture is initially offering nine trips between New York and Atlantic City each weekend, representing approximately 140,000 passenger trips annually. GuestLogix is providing its retail platform in partnership with the Compass Group (CPG.L), the outsourced provider of food and beverage services for the train.
“We are excited to be working with the casinos and the Compass Group on this new, high-profile rail development,” said Tom Douramakos, GuestLogix President and CEO. “This train aims to deliver a new level of service to casino patrons, and our onboard retailing platform will enhance the rider experience by making onboard transactions for meals, drinks and other innovative products and services, secure and convenient.”
“We regard the rail industry as a significant long-term growth opportunity. It is approximately 10 times larger than the global airline industry in terms of passenger trips. Plus, travelers are already conditioned to purchase items onboard, and, with more stowage space, there is an opportunity to offer a wider selection of goods for sale,” added Douramakos.
The new train provides customers with a comfortable, convenient and fun travel experience between New York and Atlantic City (with a stop in Newark). Its eight multi-level rail cars constructed by Bombardier (BBD-A.TO) offer passengers upgraded leather seating, a private VIP-style lounge, custom-designed food and beverage kiosks, and both first class and coach class travel experiences. First-class seating is found on the upper deck of the train with servers available for food and beverage options. Coach class riders will be served via a fixed point food, beverage bar service locations, conveniently located throughout the train.
